Aged woman arrested in Makeni for illegal drug possession


Makeni, 22nd October 2025 – In a strong show of law enforcement against drug abuse in Makeni, police have arrested Ya. Kadiatu Barrie, an elderly resident of Lawyer Street, for possession of illegal narcotics.

According to updates from the Sierra Leone Police, officers recovered 55 tablets suspected to be Tramadol and 25 wraps of a substance believed to be Kush during the arrest. The operation, carried out by the Regional Operations Office in Mena Hills Makeni, was based on credible intelligence indicating the area had become a hotspot for drug activities.


Led by DSP Yusif Barrie and supported by DPC John Thullah, the team conducted a search of Ms. Barrie’s home. Apart from the seized substances, no other items of interest were found.

Following a quick investigation by the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), she has been charged and will appear before the Makeni Magistrate Court on Thursday, 23rd October 2025.

AIG Victor Manfred Williams has commended the officers’ professionalism and emphasized the ongoing commitment to tackling drug-related crimes in the region. Community members are urged to provide information that can help police track and apprehend drug offenders.

This operation marks another step in the North East’s fight against illegal drugs, reinforcing both safety and accountability in Makeni.
