Freetown Terminal Limited, a subsidiary under Africa Global Logistics (AGL), celebrated World Day for Safety and Health at Work, a UN international day that is celebrated on April 28 each year, which aims to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. Work-related accidents and diseases are a major concern worldwide, affecting millions of workers and their families.
African Global Logistics Regional Managing Director Captain Fabjanka Kokan said as a company, safety is their priority, and it is a must to put on safety gear while working because when you go home with money, it is okay, but when you lose your life in the process, it is not okay, and it will be for nothing. So everyone should prioritize safety and take it seriously, as safety is not just a rule but respect and mindset.
He further stated that last year and early this year, the terminal had two fatal accidents that claimed two lives, so to prevent such incidents, if anyone is seen without safety gear, he or she will be sanctioned or relieved from his or her duty. That's how serious safety is to the company. To prevent workers from danger and the reoccurrence of fatal accidents. That's why the company celebrates World Day for Safety and Health at Work every year to raise awareness and sensitize workers to the importance of safety.
Osman Kargbo, lab lead at the National Blood Service, commended staff at the terminal for donating blood every year, which helps to save lives, and he encouraged everyone to do so, as he has donated blood 34 times, and he is the highest O- blood donor in the country because when one donates blood, he/she saves lives.
He added that sometimes people lose their lives because of a lack of blood in the blood bank. People are not donating blood, and it's important people do so, as it will save a lot of people.
