Benedict AbuBakarr Conteh - Port Loko, Sierra Leone— In a significant political development, Ali Suma, the All People's Congress (APC) District Chairman for Port Loko, has publicly apologized to Dr Richard Konteh, leader of the Unifier Movement, over false allegations of signature forgery.
The apology was tendered during a well-attended political engagement in Port Loko City during the weekend, where local leaders, party supporters, and members of the public had gathered to welcome Dr. Richard Konteh and his entourage on his ongoing national tour to unify the party.
Suma admitted that the previous accusations levied against Dr. Konteh regarding alleged forgery of signatures in 2014 were unfounded and based on misinformation. "Upon careful reflection and regret, I have come to realize that the allegations made against Dr. Konteh were false and unfair," Suma declared before the audience. "In the spirit of unity and truth, I hereby offer my sincere and unconditional apology to Dr. Richard Konteh."
The Unifier Movement, a political bloc within the APC advocating for internal cohesion and national reconciliation, had faced significant internal pushback in the past years after Dr. Konteh was accused by certain people of signature forgery.
However, no credible evidence was ever produced to substantiate the claims, and independent reviews exonerated Dr. Konteh of any wrongdoing.
Accepting the apology with characteristic grace, Dr. Konteh emphasized the importance of forgiveness and unity within the party and the country at large. "We must move beyond falsehoods and personal attacks if we are serious about building a stronger APC and a better Sierra Leone," he said. "I accept Mr. Suma’s apology, and I urge all of us to focus on the bigger picture—serving our people with honesty and integrity."
The public apology was met with loud applause, signaling a hopeful turn toward healing and unity within the APC party, particularly in the North and Northwest Regions, key strongholds for the APC.
Political analysts believe this gesture could help ease tensions within the party, thereby placing Dr. Richard Konteh on a competitive advantage as preparations intensify for the upcoming delegates conference to elect the flag bearer of the APC for the 2028 general elections.
