By: Benedict AbuBakarr Conteh - Mile 91, Tonkolili District – Two individuals have been formally charged to the Magburaka Magistrate Court for unlawful possession of cannabis sativa following a successful police operation conducted in the early hours of Tuesday, 20th May 2025.
The suspects, Katala Bangura and Osman Kamara, both residents of Makuray Village in the Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom, were arrested by the Operations Team of the Mile 91 Police Division, acting on a credible intelligence tip-off provided by concerned community members.
According to reports, the operation—led by Divisional Operations Officer DSP Saio Conteh—uncovered seven (7) bundles of suspected cannabis sativa, locally referred to as “Jamba”, found in the possession of the suspects without lawful authority. The operation was carried out at approximately 0600 hours.
Their arrest and subsequent charge to court were made possible through the proactive leadership of Superintendent Ishmael Koroma, Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Mile 91 Division, under the broader directive of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Victor Manfred Williams, Regional Commander for the North East. AIG Williams has spearheaded an intensified crackdown on drug-related offenses throughout the region, combining enforcement with community engagement initiatives aimed at educating the public on the dangers of drug use and encouraging the reporting of suspicious activities.
Following their arrest, both suspects voluntarily provided caution statements to officers at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Mile 91 Division, before being charged to court on Wednesday, 21st May 2025.
LUC Ishmael Koroma reaffirmed the police’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of communities across the region. He called on the public to remain vigilant and continue working closely with law enforcement by sharing timely and relevant information about criminal activities.
“This arrest is another step toward our goal of building a safe society free from the dangers of illicit drug use,” Superintendent Koroma stated.
