Minister of Internal Affairs Urges Western Area LUCs to Uphold Discipline Ahead of Festive Season

Kingtom, 8 December 2025 – The Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd. AIG Morie Lengor Esq., has called on Local Unit Commanders (LUCs) of the Western Area Police to exercise heightened vigilance and uphold professional conduct, particularly during the upcoming festive season. The meeting took place at the Senior Officers’ Mess, Kingtom.

He urged LUCs to closely supervise their personnel, discourage professional misconduct, and lead by example. Drawing from his own experience in the force, Minister Lengor encouraged the commanders to emulate the high standards of conduct that shaped his successful career.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of teamwork among officers and called for a spirit of collaboration that transcends internal differences. He stressed that effective engagement with community stakeholders is crucial for achieving the SLP’s objectives and advised that commanders should actively patrol their areas of responsibility at least twice weekly rather than remaining confined to their offices.

On promotions, Minister Lengor requested that the LUCs be allowed to make recommendations and that clear criteria be established to ensure deserving officers benefit fairly. He further announced plans to organise a post-festive season gathering to recognise the LUCs’ efforts and allow them to celebrate together.

Responding, Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu praised the Minister for personally engaging with the commanders instead of delegating the task. He confirmed that a festive season deployment plan is already in place and assured continued support for LUCs who demonstrate commitment and professionalism. The IGP also indicated that the Minister would be consulted regarding promotions during meetings of the Executive Management Board.

IGP Sellu encouraged the commanders to “assert themselves” in their duties and expressed gratitude to Minister Lengor for being the first minister to address the LUCs directly.
