SLP Unveils New Dance Band to Boost Morale and Prestige

Kingtom, December 8, 2025 – The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has formally unveiled a brand new Dance Band in a ceremony held at the Senior Officers' Mess within the Kingtom Police Barracks. The event was attended by senior police officials and marked a significant step toward elevating the band’s image and performance standards.

During the unveiling, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu expressed his commitment to revitalizing the band, citing past challenges due to inadequate equipment. He recounted an incident where the band’s subpar performance at an event hosted by a sister force was disappointing, fueling his efforts to procure new instruments to restore the band’s reputation.

“The band is the pride of Sierra Leone,” IGP Sellu proclaimed, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards. He highlighted that the band serves as a symbol of national pride, performing at various state functions, often free of charge, and called on members to uphold the institution’s dignity through dedicated performance.

The IGP urged band members to do their best in every performance, noting that their reputation reflects not only on themselves but also on the entire police force. He also encouraged officers present to set personal goals and pursue self-improvement through education and skill development, especially as the year draws to a close.

The ceremony concluded with the ceremonial cutting of the tape, symbolizing the official launch of the new dance band.
