Senior police officials and district authorities on Tuesday visited the family of Anthony S. Kargbo, a fuel attendant who was fatally shot by an unidentified gunman in Worreh Village along the Makeni–Kamakwie Highway, in a gesture aimed at offering condolences and calming community tensions as investigations continue.
The visit, which took place on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m., was led by the Regional Police Commander for the North East, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Victor Manfred Williams, alongside other key security and local government stakeholders.
Kargbo, who worked at SS Lodge Gas Station, was reportedly shot on Monday, January 12, 2026, under circumstances that remain unclear. Police say the assailant is still at large, and investigations are ongoing.
Speaking during the visit, AIG Williams conveyed condolences on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the entire Sierra Leone Police (SLP), describing the incident as painful not only for the family but also for the police institution.
“We understand the pain the family is going through, and as law enforcement officers, we feel it too,” AIG Williams said. “However, this painful moment should not push anyone to take the law into their own hands. We are appealing to the family, sympathizers, and the wider community to work with the police by providing relevant and timely information that can help us identify and arrest those responsible.”
He assured the family that police personnel in the region are committed to pursuing the case diligently and ensuring that those behind the killing are brought to justice.
Also addressing the family, Dr. M.B. Sisay, Chairman of the Bombali District Council, urged relatives and community members to remain patient and law-abiding, noting that the Sierra Leone Police have assumed full responsibility for the criminal investigation.
“This is a very difficult time, but we encourage the family to stay calm and allow the police to do their work,” Dr. Sisay said.
The delegation included senior officers from various police divisions in the North East, among them divisional commanders, regional operations and crime officers, and officers overseeing special security units.
The killing has sparked concern among residents along the Makeni–Kamakwie Highway, with community members calling for improved security and swift justice. Police have reiterated their appeal for public cooperation as the investigation continues.
