The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has announced an immediate investigation into a fatal shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Armed Forces Training Centre (AFTC) in Benguema, resulting in the deaths of two military personnel.
According to an official statement released by the military Facebook's page, the incident occurred at about 11:00 a.m. and involved Corporal Kamara, popularly known as “No. 9,” and his superior officer, Major Abdul Larkoh.
Preliminary reports indicate that Corporal Kamara shot and killed Major Larkoh under circumstances that are yet to be fully established. Shortly after the incident, the corporal reportedly attempted to take his own life, allegedly in a bid to evade arrest and subsequent investigation.
Military sources said Corporal Kamara was arrested while in a critical condition and rushed to the 34 Military Hospital for urgent medical attention. He was, however, pronounced dead on arrival, according to the RSLAF.
In response to the incident, the RSLAF High Command has ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances and possible motivations surrounding both deaths.
“The leadership of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces is deeply saddened by this tragic incident,” the statement noted, adding that the public will be duly informed as investigations progress and verified facts emerge.
The statement was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Yayah Brima, Esq., Director of Defence Public Relations and Information at Defence Headquarters, Cockerill Barracks, Freetown.
